Circle Power Announces $30,000 in First Responder Grants

Six local volunteer fire departments and EMS providers to receive $5,000 each to enhance community safety

Dickinson County, Mich. - Circle Power, the company developing Groveland Mine Solar, today announced six First Responder Grants totaling $30,000 in donations. The grants will provide $5,000 each to volunteer fire departments and volunteer emergency medical service providers in Felch, Norway, and Sagola Townships. 

The grants are part of Circle Power’s ongoing commitment to local partnerships connected to its Groveland Mine Solar project. They aim to enhance the safety and well-being of the communities by providing vital resources to those who serve and protect us.

We applaud volunteer first responders’ hard work and dedication, and are happy to invest in their mission to serve the community.”

Circle Power grant recipients include:

  • Norway Fire Department

  • Felch Township Fire Department

  • Sagola Township Fire Department

  • Nordic Ambulance-TTAA

  • STAR Ambulance

  • North Alert Ambulance

Each organization will use the funding to purchase equipment they have identified as priorities to continue delivering excellent service to the community. Circle Power looks forward to announcing how the grants are being utilized this fall.

About Groveland Mine Solar: Located in Dickinson County, Mich., Groveland Mine Solar is an economic development opportunity for the region that will provide new revenue to local governments and create construction jobs. Ground-mounted solar arrays will be sited on public and private lands of the decommissioned Groveland Mine, which operated from the early 1950s until 1981 under the ownership of the Hanna Mining Company. Groveland Mine Solar has signed a letter of intent with the Upper Peninsula Building Trades Council to guarantee that the project will be constructed with union labor. The project is proudly supported by Operating Engineers 324, Laborers’ Union Local 1329, Michigan Association of Carpenters & Millwrights, IBEW Local 906, the U.P. Building Trades Council, and the Upper Peninsula Construction Council.
